Definitions of Yoga and its significance
Concept of yoga:
Etimology: The word ‘yoga’ originates from the Sanskrit verb ‘yuj' (युज्) meaning to add, combine or unite. In yoga it means the union of the soul with the divine.
Yoga is defined as joining the individual with the divine self or universal self. The origin of yoga can be traced back to Hindu Civilization in Vedas, where it was mentioned that yoga was good for health fitness and well-being. Yoga seeks to build perfect coordination between body and which is necessary for focus. Once it is done, then there is synchronization between body, mind and soul.
Definitions:
Yoga is the science of development of man’s Consciousness. It is ancient Indian practice. It is defined as under:
(1) According to Maharishi Patanjali (Sutra 2-1), "Yoga Chitta Vriti Nirodha" means ‘ Checking the impulse of mind’.
(2) According to Maharshi Ved Vyasa , ‘ Yoga is attaining the pose.’
(3) Lord Krishna ( as quoted in The Gita, ‘Skill in action or efficiency alone is Yoga.’
